We elected a public
servant, a Lucas County Prosecutor, to office to prosecute
cases on the merits of fairness. Many individuals have been
jailed unfairly and wrongfully. According to The Blade:
“Lucas County Prosecutor Julia Bates was pleased with the
decision, saying the case has dragged on far too long. It’s
time to put it to rest…” (February 10, 2018). Seriously?
Mr. Brown should not have
been required to hire an attorney to file a lawsuit to be
treated decently from a miscarriage of justice earlier used
against him.
A legal question to be
asked of the public servant, Lucas County Prosecutor Bates,
is whether the compensation sought by Mr. Brown is required
by enacted law to be challenged and outright denied?
Lucas County voters in
2018 will be asked to approve a levy as a tax against
their property for a new jail. A new jail is wanted at a
cost of approximately $145 million and, by the same token,
property owners will be levied forever with a tax. However
when a person is jailed wrongfully for decades there is not
a word in the media from any elected political
official for compensation to Mr. Brown or a law to be
questioned and/or changed to accord compensation warranted
to an individual jailed by a miscarriage of justice.
