Toledo Symphony Hosted Sneak Peek at its North Star Festival Series

The Toledo Symphony recently hosted members of the local African-American community at a preview of the symphony’s upcoming North Star Festival concert series which explores the African-American musical journey from the 1850s to the 1960s.

The reception, held at Toledo School for the Arts Gallery, included comments by TSO CEO Zak Vassar as well as by Artistic Administrator Merwin Siu, a slide presentation and symphony musicians playing selections from the concert series. Food and beverages were generously provided by Real Seafood, Manos, Adams Street Café, Fowl & Fodder, Carlos’ Poco Loco, Manhattan’s, J Mae’s, 20 North Gallery, and Maumee Bay Brewing Co.

The concert series includes four concerts, beginning with opera legend Kathleen Battle performing “Underground Railroad – A Spiritual Journey,” and concluding with “Classical Ellington.” The Festival runs March – April, 2018.
