Hundreds of area-youth received words of encouragement during the 14th annual Black History Month brunch, sponsored by the Perry Burroughs Democratic Women’s Club that was held on Saturday, February 17, 2018.

Toledo City Council Woman and Club President Yvonne Harper served as mistress of ceremonies. The program continued with an invocation delivered by Brenda Oliver, remarks and presentations, acknowledgement of elected officials and dignitaries, and featured keynote speaker Judge Ian English.

English earned his diploma from Macomber High School and continued with his education at University of Toledo, where he earned his undergraduate degree and a doctorate of jurisprudence in 2000. English practiced law in a private firm before joining the Lucas County Prosecutor’s Office and also serving as Adjunct professor at University of Toledo.

“First, I want to thank the women of this organization for the invitation. The women within this organization, our party and community have power. Everyone in this room has power and ability to contribute to a collaborative power that can transform the community,” said English.
