Autumn
Gineen's Atelier
“Atelier.” An artist’s or designer’s workshop or
studio.
The passion for fashion isn’t all that Autumn Gineen has
when it comes to her custom work. Within the lining of
her fabric lies the story of the struggle women face –
the pressure of society to look a certain way, the
images in media, shunning the curvier physique or
taunting the less shapely. This is a struggle Gineen
recognizes and is channeling through her passion for
clothing design for the greater good.
“I always wanted to be a fashion designer but didn’t
want to go to school for it,” says Autumn Gineen, who
has located her clothing and jewelry shop – her atelier
– in the UpTown area of Toledo. So she taught herself.
The Detroit native, who moved to the Glass City about
eight years ago, starting sewing when she was nine years
old and has been in the clothing business for 12 years,
providing her designer fashions for Toledo residents
since she made the move south. A few years ago, this
multidimensional artist, expanded her vision and began
designing jewelry as well – a hobby that turned into “an
everyday thing.”
In 2017, Autumn moved her shop to 1811 Adams Street, in
The Truth Art Gallery, next door to Carlos Poco Loco,
where five days a week she creates clothing and jewelry
– pants, shirts, re-mix skirts, wedding dresses, prom
dresses, men’s ties, along with necklaces and bracelets
– a wide variety of items and styles. She custom designs
her fashions for her clientele, in fact.
In addition to her own creations, Autumn also offers
sewing lessons for those who might be inspired to create
for themselves.
Gineen’s
Atelier is open five days a week – Tuesday through
Saturday. Find her on Facebook or call her at
