Sheena Barnes Takes Oath of Office, Joins TPS School Board
It’s
official! Shenna Barnes is now a member of the Toledo Board
of Education after taking the oath of office on Tuesday,
January 7, at TPS headquarters. Afterwards, Barnes gathered
with friends, supporters and other elected officials for a
celebration at the Truth Art Gallery.
Barnes
has become the newest member of the Toledo Board joining
Robert Vasquez, Christine Varwig, Stephanie Eichenberg and
Polly Gerken.

Barnes
is an advocate, mother and community member. She is a
community health worker for Lucas County, working with youth
to serve as a bridge between the community and the
healthcare, government and social service systems. She has
experience with public policy and youth crisis intervention
advocacy.
Barnes
moved to Toledo from Flint, Michigan about 10 years ago and
made Toledo a home for herself, and her three children. She
quickly became involved in the community here, she is a
board member for Advocates For Basic Legal Equality (ABLE),
a Coordinator For The Equality Toledo Food Pantry, and a
Buckeye Region Anti-Violence Organization (BRAVO) trainer.
All three of Barnes’ children attend Toledo Public schools
and her daughter is a recent graduate of Bowsher High
School.
Barnes
brings her experience guiding youth social, economical and
poverty challenges to Toledo Public Schools board with a
public health to education viewpoint. |
