Sojourner’s Truth Staff
Women Entrepreneurs with a
Purpose, an organization founded in March 2019 in order to
help women business owners succeed, held a tax class on
Saturday, January 11 to help its members with both their
personal and business taxes. Darlene Knapp, CPA, of Knapp
Accounting was the guest lecturer.
Knapp has over 21 years of
public accounting experience in the tax compliance, planning
and closely held business areas. She graduated from the
University of Toledo with a degree in Business
Administration and is a member of the American Institute of
Certified Public Accountants, among other professional
organizations.
Knapp took the attendees
through the planning and opening of a small business from
the accounting standpoint, emphasizing the importance of
having the skills necessary to operate successfully to
compiling the information needed to make the correct
decisions about the operation, particularly on the
accounting/tax end.
Knapp brought along
checklists as examples of how a new or prospective business
owner can begin the process of stating an enterprise – how
to obtain the proper documentation and forms, how to select
a mode of operating, how to make decisions that will
properly comply with local and national business oversight
agencies, such as the Internal Revenue Service.
