Capturing Your Holiday Memories

Carla Thomas, Owner CYT Images
The Truth Contributor

Let’s recap. Week one, I showed you how Mini - sessions are a fun and inexpensive way to capture holiday memories of you and your family. Week two, we witnessed the beautiful advantages of natural light photography by shooting holiday photos outdoors.

This week, as we continue to explore the different genres of photography and creative ways to capture your holiday memories, we will look at lifestyle / portrait photography.

According to one definition, lifestyle photography is "a style of portrait /people photography which aims to capture and document real-life events, situations, or milestones in an artistic manner and the art of the everyday."

I enjoy this genre because I’m given the opportunity to capture images of my clients in ways that are unique to who they are, in settings and surroundings fun and comfortable for them.

Meet the Kynard family. Stephanie is the owner of Kynard's Child Development Center while her husband Clyde owns and oversees Kynard Enterprises, a commercial and residential building services and construction company. In addition to running two businesses, Clyde and Stephanie navigate the daily tasks and activities involved with raising their two children, Carrington, and Christian, three if you count their dog Remington. However, they decided to put their busy schedules on pause and schedule a fun, holiday photo session.

When speaking of her family Stephanie says, “We absolutely love each other and love spending time with one another. We put God first and next, is the four of us.  As parents, we have always reminded our children that if they don't have anyone else, they will always have each other and that has proven to be true during this COVID-19 season.

She adds, “During the holiday season, we love to capture memories through photos because they will serve as a reminder of the times we’ve spent together as a family and photos are something that can be kept and passed down for generations to come.”

And so, I ask, when was the last time you decided to book a photo session for your family? Yes, thanks to the convenience of cell phone cameras, we are forever capturing memories however, inevitably someone is always missing from the photo . . . right?

There will always be tasks on your “To Do” lists, making it less of a priority to gather the family and schedule a photo session but let me encourage you to at the least, make it a yearly tradition.

Whether it be around holiday time or any other time throughout the year, the important thing is to schedule the time.
