Djhream Carter: Entering Capital University to Pursue Her Dreams

Sojourner’s Truth Staff

Djhream Carter will be entering Capital University in the fall as she starts her quest for a degree that will enable her to enter medical school and eventually become a doctor.

Carter, a 16-year old, recently won the title of Debutante 2015 at the Cotillion sponsored by the Toledo Club of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Clubs Inc. This year’s Cotillion was the club’s 50th annual event.

Carter’s academic credentials are stunning. Graduating from TSA with a 3.8 GPA, she was offered almost a million dollars in scholarships from numerous institutions of higher learning and earned full rides to four colleges – Capital, Philadelphia University, Eastern Michigan University and Wittenberg University.

Carter chose Capital because it is a small, private, Christian college. “I wanted a smaller learning environment in order to get more attention in my field,” she says of the decision to attend Capital which is located in Columbus, OH.

After college, Carter will be entering medical school so that she can ultimately pursue a career as a physician focusing on “children or women,” she says.

Carter’s participation in this year’s Cotillion was triumphant not only because of her academic accomplishments but also because of her victory in the talent portion of the event. She won by singing in German an aria by Austrian composer Franz Schubert.

Capital University has a conservatory of music – a perfect fit for Carter’s talents.

Carter is the daughter of LaTesha Calloway.
