Simmons earned the
scholarship, in the amount of $2,000, by finishing second in
an annual writing competition the Alliance hosts. Each year,
says Jennifer Compton, Alliance board member and director of
business development for Sun Federal, the Alliance posts a
financial question for those vying for the three
scholarships it offers. This year 203 entrants answered the
question: How can credit unions better influence the
community?
Simmons, who graduated
with Honors from TSA, has been on the honor roll throughout
her high school career and received an Outstanding
Citizenship nomination for the past three years. A vice
president of the National Honor Society, Simmons has been an
active member of Culture Club, the Diversity Committee and
the Prom Committee.
Simmons participated in
this year’s Debutante Cotillion all the while maintaining a
3.74 GPA, staying active in the community – such as
volunteering at Art and Soul, an after-school program – and
interning with the Toledo Urban Federal Credit Union.
Simmons is the daughter of
Sean and DeLise Simmons. |
