Second Baptist Church’s Fourth Annual Walk-A-Thon
Sojourner’s Truth Staff
Second Baptist Church held
its fourth annual Walk-A-Thon on Saturday, July 11 at Secor
Park. The annual event, which was the brainchild of Lorraine
Smith, a member of the congregation, was developed to
promote a healthy life style and to raise funds for the “New
Vision,” the church’s building fund.
The annual event has been
blessed over the past four years to enjoy good weather and
increasing participation, resulting in much-needed exercise
and better health practices.
As a result of the
walk-a-thon, the church’s Wellness Ministry was created. The
two entities work together to foster good eating habits and
monitoring one’s health problems. A focus on educating
members of the church and the community on such practices
was demonstrated during a recent health fair held at the
Second Baptist Annex Hall on Irwin Road.
The organizing committee
thanked the following community companies for their support:
Gordon Food Services, Krogers, The Andersons and Walmart.
Committee members are
Lorraine Smith, Varetta Glover, Lorraine Bartley, Debra
Johnson, Christine Shumpert and Lee Smith.
Second Baptist services,
under the direction of Pastor Jerry L. Boose, D.Div, are
currently held at the Spencer Township Neighborhood Center
located at 330 Oak Terrace Blvd in Holland, OH. |
