Now, Mike wants to find a way, any way back in the
public limelight and a government paycheck and he figures
being a county commish is a great way to do both. Will some
politicos not ever go away quietly into the night and call
it a day?
With Mike's fan base, you would think he would hook up with
a local car dealer and sell new cars.
(2) Is it me or do you sense that The Blade has been and
continues to nit pick at Mayor Paula Hudson? When I read
some of their editorials and columns, I get the drift that
they are not happy campers that Paula trampled the other
mayoral contenders and now The Blade editorial whiz kids do
not have their politico favorite in office.
Boo-Hoo for the Blade!
I was glad that she trounced the other candidates for it
also was a repudiation of the once-believed notion that a
Blade editorial could carry the day in an election and thus
re-inforce the belief that the Blade had political clout in
this city.
Glad that mystique is over with! Go Paula...go!
(3) Danger...danger! Notice in the papers that Donald Trump
is making sweet eyes at
the Russian dictator, Vladimir Putin! What is that about? I
will tell you. Putin is playing Trump like a violin. He will
suck Trump in with inane vanities and kisses and the whole
time, if Trump was to take the White House, Putin will have
Trump thinking that Putin is a great Joe.
Each of these guys is throwing flowers at the other in
some "bromance" that is hard to look at. Why would anyone
give kudos to Putin! It is because Donald sees himself in
that same mold of being a similar shirtless tough guy as
Putin and because Donald
Trump is so vain, his vanity prevents him from seeing that
this rose has hidden thorns in it. Don't be surprised if
Donald soon wants to meet with Putin so he can boast about
his foreign policy street cred.
(4) Let me know when either political party comes out with
any concrete agenda regarding the concerns of the black
communities across America. Not lip service to #BlackLivesMatter
but real policy proposals.
To date, both parties are speechless about what impacts
the black community and unless or until they have to deal
with it, don't expect to see any debates about those issues
since the nation is consumed by the threats of home grown
terrorists.
In any of the Republican debates, did you hear any
proposals or concerns about issues that affect the black
community?
And you won't. The Republicans have for all intents and
purposes written off the black vote (save for about three-10
percent) and the Democrats believe that the black vote is
already in their hip pocket. So why spend debate time
talking about income inequality, or the lack of finances
available to start businesses or the need to financially
assist the black colleges or the appalling rate of abortions
by black women ( I know...you can not legislate morality) or
the incarceration rate of black males.
(5) Maybe, just maybe in 2016, we might find enough black
pastors who are not scared of their own shadow that they
will pick up on one of my ideas that I have floated around
for the past 25 years and that is: to "tithe" off of their
weekly collection totals and place those funds in a general
fund for the purposes of economic development for the very
people who fill those Sunday collection plates.
Imagine all of the black churches in Toledo beginning
to "tithe" weekly for the benefit and edification of their
parishioners. It would cause a sea change in how we
view ourselves and how we can fund our own causes and quit
going hat in hand to
downtown corporate America for a handout.
But, alas, I am dreaming, will someone please shake me and
wake me up!
(6) If I were Santa Claus, these would be my stocking
stuffers for "us" folks:
(a) a drastic reduction in out-of-wedlock births starting
with black girls not dropping their panties for every lame
rap that comes their way; (b) black-on-black crime being a
thing of the past; (c) teenagers finishing high school and
getting a two year or a four year degree or learning a trade
skill; (d) black boys stop drooping their pants as if they
have a "load" in them; (e) if you see a crime being done,
report it including any child abuse or spousal abuse. Yes,
you can report such crimes anonymously, so cut out the
nonsense of you being called a "snitch!"
