Toledo School for the
Arts Ranked First in the State
Special to The Truth
Toledo School for the Arts (TSA) has been
ranked the number one charter school in Ohio. “This
designation is very exciting,“ explained TSA Director
Douglas Mead, EdD. “The Niche rating is largely based on
reviews by parents, students and alumni, none of which
are solicited by TSA. The announcement is a surprise,
but the work our teachers and students did to get us
there is most certainly well planned and calculated!”
TSA was recently announced as the #1
Charter School in Ohio by Niche, a website that ranks
K-12 schools and colleges based on data and reviews.
Regarding their process, Niche states:
Niche.com content comes from a variety of
sources, including student, parent, and resident
surveys, school administrators, and government
databases. This data is then used to generate our
rankings and power our school profiles and search tools.
Data Sources: Our factual information
comes from a variety of sources, including the U.S.
Department of Education's NCES (National Center for
Education Statistics) and IPEDS (Integrated
Postsecondary Education Data System), the U.S. Census
Bureau's Five Year ACS (American Community Survey), the
FBI's Uniform Crime Reports, NOAA's National Climatic
Data Center, Common Data Sets (reports released by some
colleges and universities), and the Niche community
(including participating school administrators who
update their school’s information on our website). In
addition to the national data sources listed above,
city-specific data sources along with their relevant
disclaimers can be found here.
Content Usage: Reviews and polls are
submitted by people who have registered for our site and
have a current or recent association with a school,
college, or location. Reviews and polls can be submitted
through our various surveys—specifically our College
Survey (for current college students and recent alumni),
our Student Survey (for current K-12 students and recent
alumni), our Parent Survey (for the parents of current
K-12 students or recent alumni), and our Local Survey
(for current or recent residents of any area across the
country).
In addition to the number one charter school
ranking, TSA is ranked number 25 among the Top 100 Ohio High
Schools rated by Niche, which includes charter, public and
private schools.
While reviews remain anonymous, schools and
the public can see which group of stakeholders provided each
review. One provided by a TSA high school senior reads:
“The academics at TSA are incredibly
top-notch. The teachers are very knowledgeable, and like to
integrate conversations into their classrooms, thus creating
an interactive environment and causing the students to
think. There is a very wide variety of students here from
all walks of life, and this causes other students, and the
teachers to think about this in their lessons.”
TSA is located in downtown Toledo, Ohio and
serves over 670 students across grades six-12. The school
attracts students from over 20 school districts with an
award-winning arts-integrated curriculum model.
Accolades the school has received since its
inception include the 2012 Governor’s Award for the Arts in
Ohio, Category: Arts Education, presented by Ohio’s Governor
Kasich and a designation as a National Blue Ribbon School by
the U.S. Department of Education. TSA has been listed as an
America’s Best High Schools in U.S. News & World Report four
times, and was the first charter to be named a National
Title I Distinguished School.
