Ohio Supreme Court Candidates O’Donnell and Rice Receive
Excellent Ratings from Cleveland Metropolitan Bar
Association
Special to The Truth
The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association has awarded
“excellent” ratings to Appellate Court Judge Cynthia Rice
and Common Pleas Court Judge John O’Donnell in their races
for the Ohio Supreme Court.
“The Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association is the largest
in Ohio, and they have assessed Judge John O’Donnell and
Judge Cynthia Rice as “excellent” candidates for the state’s
highest court,” said Ohio Democratic Party Chairman David
Pepper. “O’Donnell and Rice believe that the Ohio Supreme
Court should be a place that is fair and impartial in
upholding the constitutional rights of all Ohioans, not just
the wealthy and well-connected. These “excellent” ratings
are further evidence that O’Donnell and Rice are the most
qualified candidates for the Ohio Supreme Court.”
Rice’s opponent, Pat DeWine, was the only Supreme Court
candidate not to receive an “excellent” rating from the
Cleveland Metropolitan Bar Association.
DeWine also received a “not recommended” rating from the
Ohio State Bar Association.
Judge Rice and Judge O’Donnell have received “highly
recommended” and “recommended” ratings, respectively, from
the Ohio State Bar Association and received endorsements
from the Ohio Association of Public School Employees (OAPSE),
United Auto Workers (UAW), Ohio Democratic County Chairs
Association and the Ohio Democratic Party.
Representing more than 5,500 members, the Cleveland
Metropolitan Bar Association unified the Cleveland Bar
Association and the Cuyahoga County Bar Association, making
the organization the largest legal community in Ohio. They
rate candidates based on the criteria of integrity, judicial
temperament, diligence, professional competence and
community understanding.
