Ashford Tapped to lead Community and Family Advancement
Subcommittee on Minority Affairs
Will work with colleagues to help shape public policy
State Rep. Michael Ashford (D-Toledo) last week announced he
will serve as chairman of the Community and Family
Advancement Subcommittee on Minority Affairs for the new
legislative session. Ashford, elected to his fourth term in
November and sworn in earlier this month, will be the only
Democratic member to serve as chairman of a committee or
subcommittee this General Assembly.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to continue serving my
constituents in the new General Assembly,” said Ashford. “As
we begin the state budget deliberations here at the
Statehouse, I am committed to working across the aisle to
improve our roads and bridges, protect Ohioans’ access to
healthcare, invest in our public education system and help
ensure equal access to economic opportunity for all working
Ohioans.”
Ashford will also serve on the following committees to help
shape and refine public policy during the 132nd General
Assembly:
-Community and Family Advancement
-Insurance
-Public Utilities, ranking member
-State and Local Government
The House of Representatives has 21 standing committees now
after House Republicans slightly altered the committee
structure for the 132nd General Assembly. The
Judiciary Committee was split into two separate Criminal and
Civil Justice Committees, committees on state and local
government were consolidated, and several new committees –
including Aging & Long-Term Care and Federalism & Interstate
Relations – were established, among other changes.
