Letter to the Editor,
The Great Deceiver
On April 7, 2017, the Body
of Christ was “jolted” when two prominent Toledo pastors
were arrested and held without bond on accusations of being
involved in the sex trafficking of children. The one
question asked most was, how could ministers do something so
offensive and criminal?
Being raised in the church
I know the main purpose of the Devil, for all mankind, is to
steal, kill, destroy and deceive. A sin is a sin no matter
who commits it! The Devil, the adversary is real and
powerful. Ministers are not immune from the “clutches” of
the Devil. Jesus is the only perfect pastor!
We all can lose sight of
the cross and backslide. Remember God gave us a conscience
to direct and steer us in the right direction. He gave us a
free will to do good or evil. The Bible clearly states “you
may be sure your sins will find you out.” When we sin we
break God’s moral law and there are always repercussions.
I know for some people
forgiveness will be hard. Thank goodness we have a God who
forgives easily and quick! Some people never forgive others
who have wronged them. Forgiveness is an important component
of Christianity. Christ forgave all those who put him on the
cross saying “Father, forgive them.”
Christ will show his
grace, love toward the charged individuals. If they ask for
forgiveness, Christ will grant it!
When anyone falls out of
grace, especially ministers, we need to put them on our
prayer list. In this situation, let’s pray for the victims,
families, spouses, congregations and all the lives affected.
