Lourdes University Launches Instructional Excellence
Initiative Today
Faculty develop evidence-based techniques to promote student
success
On August 22, Lourdes University is excited to launch the
first of two academic courses focused on instructional
excellence in support of student success. The comprehensive,
yearlong program immerses 20 Lourdes faculty in the most
effective and proven research-based teaching techniques.
Taught by an instructor from The Association of College and
University Educators (ACUE), the course is facilitated by
Lourdes University Instructor and Director of Field
Education Michelle Rose.
“The University and our faculty are known regionally for
delivering an exceptional private education that graduates
individuals with workforce readiness. As a learning
community, we are delighted to participate in the
consortium, learn the most innovative 21st
century teaching methods and prepare our students to succeed
in the classroom and beyond,” says Ms. Rose.
Just one of 26 U.S. institutions selected by the Council of
Independent Colleges (CIC) in partnership with the ACUE,
Lourdes University faculty will complete 27 modules which
includes two modules specifically focused on
career-readiness.
• Embedding Career Guidance - Learning how to provide
frequent, course-embedded information about specific careers
• Preparing Students with 21st-Century Career-Ready
Skills - Assist in developing course content,
assignments, and assessments to help students develop
“career-ready” skills.
ACUE’s courses in effective teaching practices are based on
more than three decades of research that shows effective
teaching and improves learning for all students. Aligned
with the latest research in cognition and adult learning,
ACUE’s courses address over 200 evidence-based teaching
practices, covering how to design an effective course;
establish a productive learning environment; use active
learning techniques; promote higher-order thinking; and
utilize assessments to inform instruction and promote
learning.
ACUE’s Community of Professional Practice provides continued
support for educators to grow in the scholarship of teaching
through member forums, expert webinars, weekly newsletters,
the ‘Q’ blog, and “office hours” with leading scholars in
college instruction.
The Lourdes University program is made possible by the CIC
and a $1.2 million grant from Strada Education Network, a
national nonprofit dedicated to strengthening America’s
pathways between education and employment.
