Gamma’s Hat’s Off “Hollywood the Black Experience”

By Carla Yvette

The ladies of the Toledo Chapter of Gamma Phi Delta Sorority, Inc. held their 14th Annual Scholarship Fundraiser, “Hat’s Off” event at Central Park West, April 26, presented by the ladies of Beta Phi.

Each “Hats Off” event boasts a different theme each year with past themes including “The Harlem Renaissance” where guests listened to historical 1920’s music and enjoyed a chicken and waffle fare and, a “Motown Sound” theme treating guests to music from the historic Motown Era as they dined on Soul Food.

Making a grand entrance to their personal theme song, the ladies of Gamma Phi Delta, in keeping with this year’s theme Hats Off “Hollywood the Black Experience”, were decked out in costumes representing various iconic African-American female actresses such as Whoopi Goldberg (Sis Mary Clarence), Halle Berry, Willona Woods from Good Times and Foxy Brown.

Leon Whittington and DJ MSax provided entertainment for the evening with raffles and prizes, food, and dancing as part of the night’s festivities.

All proceeds from the scholarship fundraiser will benefit three high school seniors in northwest Ohio.
