AKA Goes Red to
Promote Heart Healthy Lifestyle
Special to The Truth
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc, Zeta Alpha Omega Chapter of
Toledo members collaborated with Angela Steward, owner of
Fabulously Fit Studio, to participate in a
community aerobic exercise class to promote and educate
African-American women about heart health on February 1,
2016.
The participants were reminded to check their blood pressure
and cholesterol numbers with their primary care provider.
American Heart Association” Know your Physical Activity”
cards were handed out. The card describes a sample-walking
plan. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority distributed posters and
flyers explaining cardiovascular disease and knowing the
signs of a heart attack and stroke.
Members will wear red attire on February 13 to support the
American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women and Alpha
Kappa Alpha Sorority’s “Pink Goes Red” Community Impact Day
month-long activities. Chapter members are asked to complete
the American Heart Association’s My Life Check
survey to determine their heart health score and to
participate in a fun educational activity to test their
knowledge of heart and stroke diseases.
