Local MBE’s

On Wednesday, June 1,
local business owners gathered at the headquarters of the
local Minority Business Assistance Center (MBAC) on the
campus of the University of Toledo Scott Park Campus to
explore the options available to them through the office of
the state agency.
The afternoon’s special
guests were Jeffrey Johnson, chief of the Ohio Minority
Business Development Division (MBDD) and Monica Womack, MBAC
coordinator for the State of Ohio.
“The purpose was to get
the word out about what we do and how we can help minority
business enterprises grow their businesses,” said Jay Black,
director of MBAC’s Region 4. Region 4 is comprised of a 17
county, northwest Ohio area.
Johnson has had a 30 year
business career in finance, banking and public accounting.
“We provide direct loans,
surety bonding and collateral for local loans,” said Johnson
of his division’s activities. “If you want to grow and
develop your business, we can help.” MBDD can also state
contracting opportunities for MBE’s.
The key to MBDD’s
operations is that the agency works with established
business rather than start ups.
Minority owned businesses
include those owned by African Americans, Hispanic
Americans, Asian Americans and Native Americans.
The Northwest Ohio MBAC
provides free one-on-one consulting, assistance completing
federal, state and local certification applications and
referrals for financial assistance programs.
