Cast of The West Wing Stumps for Clinton in Ohio

Former President Josiah
Bartlet’s senior staff toured the Buckeye State over the
weekend and made it clear that their choice for president is
none other than Democrat Hillary Clinton.
On Saturday, the cast of
The West Wing arrived in Toledo, after stops in
Cleveland and Sandusky, to help open the latest Clinton
“Ohio Together” campaign office on Reynolds Road and to urge
supporters to get to the polls. Several hundred fans and
voters attended the rally.
The six actors – Richard
Schiff (Toby Ziegler), Bradley Whitford (Josh Lyman),
Allison Janney (C.J. Cregg), Dule’ Hill (Charlie Young),
Joshua Malina (Will Bailey) and Mary McCormack (Kate Harper)
– praised Clinton’s accomplishments, asserted that the time
has come for a woman president and denounced Donald Trump as
being unfit for elected office. Each of the six addressed
the crowd.
“I’m with her because she
wants to build an economy that’s not just for the select few
at the top,” said Hill, who went on to star in the
television series Psych after The West Wing
had run its course.
Before the cast arrived,
the crowd was treated to a rousing warm-up speech by Lucas
County Commissioner Pete Gerken, who is also on the ballot
this fall. Gerken led the audience in chants and also urged
the crowd, in heavily Democratic Lucas County, to get out in
numbers that will tilt the balance for Clinton.

LC Commissioner Pete Gerken warms up the crowd

Mohamed Gula

Mohamed Gula, a Clinton
organizer, stepped up after Gerken to speak about issues
close to his heart. Gula’s father was an immigrant in the
mid-70’s who came to this country on a student visa and was
not able to return home due to conflicts in his homeland. He
lived in limbo for years, unable to work because of his
status. Gula spoke of the need for immigration reform and
drew cheers from the audience when he mentioned his Muslim
heritage.
Then came the cast, joking
with one another, each of them explaining why they support
Clinton, thrilling the crowd both because of their Hollywood
celebrity and their calls to elect Clinton.
On Sunday, the six
traveled on to Columbus and Dayton (Janney’s hometown).
