Chico's
at Franklin Park Mall provided Sewell's three outfit changes
throughout the evening. Makeup was done by Dina Jarouche,
and the birthday girl's upsweep hairstyle by Alina Dunbar,
owner of Salon Onyx.
Music
provided by JP Dynasty (the Peterson brothers and father),
who performed African master drumming outside as guests
arrived (Coming to America style!). Norris Finley was the DJ
for the event and jazz combo Damen Cook (drums) and Mike
Lorenz (keyboards) played in the bourbon room.
Sewell's
friends pulled out all of the stops for the Purpose event: Melonny
Banks, Sharon Mitchell (Melonny's mother who flew in from
South Carolina to provide her decor and event expertise),
and Alina Dunbar styled and provided decor and backdrops for
the entire two party rooms.
Diana
Patton and Gretchen DeBacker served as event coordinators.
Tonya Rider and Kerry Emery greeted all donor partygoers.
Amber Miller-Bryd was the official event photographer, Diana
Clayton of Swatch PhotoBooth donated and ran the fun party
PhotoBooth, Majer Designs provided swanky white leather
furniture for the bourbon lounge.
Alexis
Means served as event MC. Sewell's family provided remarks -
Richard and Iris Sewell (Chicago), Henry and Billie Johnson
(Ann Arbor), and Rhonda's twin daughters Savannah and Sarah,
age 16. Representing the receiving charities with remarks
were Kathryn Fell of The Library Legacy Foundation, and
Frankie Doria, of ProMedica. Columbus friends Jala Anderson
and Phil Alloy surprised Rhonda with their presence. Out of
town guests included Kim Sturdivant (Novi, MI), Michael
Barringer (Xenia, OH), and Tiffany Mitchell-Brewer
(Detroit). Toledo Mayor Paula Hicks Hudson and Toledo City
Councilman Tyrone Riley were among the guests.
