June Boyd Celebrates Her 80th with Family and
Friends … Lots of Friends

June Boyd, former Toledo
City Council member, Democratic Party activist, Lucas County
Board of Elections member, among many other accomplishments,
celebrated her 80th birthday in April at the Gesu
Banquet Hall surrounded by hundreds of family members,
friends and colleagues for the special occasion.
Boyd, a trailblazer in the
Toledo community, began setting the pace as a teenager when
she attended Buckeye Girls’ States, was crowned Miss Sepia
City and was the first African American to graduate from St.
Ursula Academy.
She was one of the
founding members of the Toledo Club National Association of
Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club and helped
organize the Democratic Business and Professional Women’s
Club of Lucas County.
In 1993, Boyd, along with
current State Sen. Edna Brown, were the first two
African-American women elected to City Council.
