Four Mile Strip of Nebraska Avenue Now Jack Ford Way
Sojourner’s Truth Staff
On Saturday, June 20,
scores of Jack Ford admirers gathered at UMADAOP
headquarters at 2447 Nebraska Avenue to pay homage to the
former mayor by dedicating a four-mile strip of Nebraska
Avenue to his name.

The event, organized by
Toledo City Councilwoman Theresa M. Gabriel, featured
remarks by UMADAOP Executive Director John Edwards, Ford
close friend Weldon Douthitt, former Mayor Carty Finkbeiner,
Mayor Paula Hicks-Hudson and daughter Jessica Ford.
All of the speakers
touched on the impact the Ford, a former mayor, councilman,
state legislator, school board member, social worker, had on
the Toledo community – most in very personal terms.
Ford, who passed away
earlier this year in March, founded two substance abuse
clinics – SASI and Adelante – and the fact that the street
dedication was held in front of UMADAOP – a drug counseling
center – was particularly appropriate.
