Congresswoman
Marcy Kaptur and Toledo Library Present Open Book with
Timothy Snyder
Special to The Truth
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur and the Toledo Lucas County Public
Library are partnering to welcome Yale Professor, and one of
America's leading historians and public intellectuals,
Timothy Snyder. His new book,
On Tyranny: Twenty Lessons from the Twentieth Century, has
received high praise as an essential guide to survival and
resistance for our time. Mr. Snyder will be introduced by
Congresswoman Marcy Kaptur, who worked with the Library on
arranging this visit.
On
Tyranny,
offers today's reader a guide to identifying and
understanding the frightening parallels that exist between
our current reality and the reality faced by Europeans of
the twentieth century. But Snyder goes further, using
history to show us how to effectively resist and bring about
change. On Tyranny offers invaluable ideas for how we
can preserve our freedoms in the uncertain years to come
through a series of twenty lessons.
Snyder first introduced these lessons in a Facebook post in
November 2016 just days after the presidential election. The
post has since received more than one million views, having
been reposted, republished, and retweeted countless times.
Snyder's lessons have resonated with a world-wide audience
and On Tyranny will be published in fourteen
countries in addition to its simultaneous U.S. and UK
release.
Timothy Snyder is the Housum Professor and Levin Chair of History
at Yale University. He is the author of
Bloodlands: Europe Between Hitler and Stalin
and
Black Earth: The Holocaust as History and Warning.
Snyder is a member of the Committee on Conscience of the
United States Holocaust Memorial Museum and a permanent
fellow of the Institute for Human Sciences in Vienna. His
