The YMCA Fatherhood Initiative in Partnership with the City of Toledo and Lucas County Jobs and Family Services to Celebrate Fathers

Special to The Truth

The YMCA Fatherhood Initiative in partnership with the City of Toledo and Lucas County Jobs and Family Services are working together to support, educate and recognize the impact of fathers on the family. “A Celebration of Fatherhood” event will be held to promote the connection of fathers with community resources and to encourage positive parenting in the father-child interaction. Males of all ages who are involved in the lives of children are invited to attend this gathering; please do not bring children. The event is Saturday, June 25, 2016, from 8:30 AM until 4:30 PM. It will take place at The University of Toledo, in Nitschke Hall at 1610 N. Westwood Ave., Toledo, OH 43607.

The Celebration will feature a community services resource fair specifically for fathers, an essay and coloring contest by Toledo Public School students, a Father’s Forum and complimentary lunch and snacks. Guest speakers will be Mr. Darryl Grayson, COO/Director of Urban Light Ministries in Springfield, Ohio to discuss the many issues facing fathers today and George Winn, COO/director of Children’s Center in Detroit, Michigan, to address the importance of responsible fatherhood. Nikia Witcher, a YMCA Fatherhood Initiative Father, will express the benefits and impact of the YMCA program in his life.

The Celebration program is free and open to fathers of all ages in the community. Please reserve your spot to attend this event at 419-214-0085. The month of June is Responsible Fatherhood Month in Ohio. This program event is made possible, in part, by a grant from the Ohio Commission on Fatherhood. The primary goal of this gathering is to empower men to improve their own life and the lives of the children they are involved in. Whether you are known as Father, Grandfather, Uncle, Poppy, Daddy, Pops or other male role model, you are invited to attend A Celebration of Fatherhood.

The YMCA of Greater Toledo is recognized as the nation’s leading nonprofit committed to strengthening communities through youth development, healthy living and social responsibility. The YMCA of Greater Toledo Fatherhood Initiative offers a free, male only, multi-dimensional program to support, educate and improve fatherhood skills. This program’s objective is met through teaching proven and innovative strategies to encourage and strengthen fathers and families.
